SEO — Search Engine Optimization

SEO, or search engine optimization, is the practice of earning rank in the classic list of results on search engines like Google and Bing. It is the oldest of the four engines and still the foundation the other three stand on. If a crawler cannot reach, render and index a page cleanly, nothing downstream matters.

Winning it is unglamorous and technical. A search engine has to discover the URL, crawl it without hitting errors or blocks, render it the way a browser would, understand its structure and topic, and decide it deserves rank against everything else competing for the query. Every one of those steps is a place a real page silently fails. AEO, or answer engine optimization, is the practice of earning the direct answer, the featured snippet, and the People Also Ask slot above or beside the classic results. It is the difference between being the answer a search engine reads aloud and being a link somewhere below it.

Answer engines want a page that has already done the work of answering. That means content written to be lifted: a clear question as a heading, a concise and complete answer directly beneath it, and a structure a machine can parse without guessing. A wall of text that eventually contains the answer will lose to a competitor who put the answer in the first two sentences under a matching heading.
